French as a Second Language (FSL) promotes the use of language learning strategies, goal setting/reflection and an appreciation of French culture in Canada and in other regions of the world.
Our French Immersion Enrichment program will allow students to acquire language skills in French specifically designed for parents who do not speak French, but want their children to speak both official languages. This program focuses on various strategies, such as using visual cues, modeling French phrases and simplifying texts. The program will also provide specific instruction to improve a student's French communication skills, including oral communication which will enhance the communication between students and teacher with French being the main language of instruction.
The Math and Science small group instruction program uses methods like direct instruction, practise exercises and focuses on the Ontario Math and Science Curriculum documents. The aim is to foster foundational skills, computational fluency, and problem-solving abilities within a collaborative and supportive environment. Benefits include personalized attention, increased confidence, and a balance between individual needs and the advantages of a group dynamic through increased student engagement and stronger collaboration by working together to understand concepts.
The FDK small-group phonics program is a literacy program designed for early emergent readers. The program focuses on teaching letter sounds and blends with the introduction of high frequency words. These literacy strategies will help decoding skills to ensure foundational reading skills are developed.
The Parent & Tot Literacy program are group activities for parents and their toddlers which will prepare them before entering Kindergarten. Circle time will include songs, games and shared reading to build early literacy skills. Toddlers with their parent will have the opportunity to explore centres which are literacy based and help with fine motor skills for writing and will provide parents with the tools and guidance to support their child before they enter Kindergarten.
These courses are Lifesaving Society programs that develops swimming proficiency, lifesaving skills, and personal fitness in young swimmers. It includes training in CPR, refining stroke mechanics, self-rescue techniques, and problem-solving and decision-making skills to prepare participants for the NLS course.
The Forestry Outdoor education program uses an outdoor, child-led approach to learn about nature to teach specific forestry concepts. This program will foster an understanding of the forest ecosystem, build problem-solving skills, and encourage stewardship. The program will include activities such as nature scavenger hunts and creative projects making nature-based art.
